Environmental Policy

(In alignment with Malaysia’s Dasar Alam Sekitar Negara and National Climate Change Policy 2.0)

1. Policy Statement

AFI Brake Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd. is committed to protecting the environment, reducing its ecological footprint, and operating in a manner that supports sustainable development. We pledge to integrate environmental considerations into our business decisions and manufacturing processes to ensure long-term environmental, economic, and social sustainability. This policy aligns with Malaysia’s Environmental Quality Act 1974DASN, and the NCCP 2.0, and serves as a framework for action and continual improvement in environmental performance.

2. Objectives

Our environmental objectives are:
  • To ensure full compliance with national environmental laws and regulations.
  • To prevent pollution and minimize harmful environmental impacts from our operations.
  • To adopt climate-resilient and low-carbon practices in alignment with national climate change strategies.
  • To promote responsible use of energy, water, and raw materials.
  • To engage our workforce and supply chain in upholding environmental responsibility.
  • To establish clear performance targets and monitor progress transparently.

3. Scope of Policy

This policy applies to:
  • All departments, employees, and operational activities of AFI Brake Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd.
  • Suppliers, contractors, and service providers who conduct business on our premises or on our behalf.
  • All products and processes related to the manufacture of brake pads, brake shoes, and related components.

4. Commitment Areas

4.1 Compliance and Legal Responsibility
  • Comply with the Environmental Quality Act 1974, regulations enforced by the Department of Environment (DOE), and other local authority requirements.
  • Ensure all environmental licenses, permits, and approvals are current and enforced.
4.2 Pollution Prevention and Emission Control
  • Prevent air, water, and soil pollution through proper control measures, containment, and treatment systems.
  • Control and monitor volatile organic compounds (VOCs), noise, dust, and effluent discharge from manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain emission and waste discharge records in compliance with DOE guidelines.
4.3 Waste and Resource Management
  • Implement a structured waste management programme: reduction at source, reuse, recycling, and responsible disposal.
  • Segregate hazardous and non-hazardous waste and ensure scheduled waste is managed per Scheduled Waste Regulations 2005.
  • Promote circular economy practices in material usage and packaging.
4.4 Climate Change Mitigation and Energy Efficiency
  • Measure and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Nation Aspiration under NCCP 2.0.
  • Improve energy efficiency through technological upgrades, machine optimization, and energy audits.
  • Use renewable energy sources wherever feasible.
4.5 Water Stewardship
  • Optimise water usage and prevent contamination of local water bodies.
  • Implement water recycling systems where viable, and monitor water consumption regularly.
4.6 Sustainable Procurement and Product Lifecycle
  • Encourage environmentally preferable procurement and raw material sourcing.
  • Design and manufacture products with reduced environmental impact across their lifecycle (production, usage, and disposal).
4.7 Environmental Awareness and Training
  • Conduct regular training and awareness programmes for employees at all levels to instil environmental responsibility.
  • Promote a company-wide culture of sustainability through campaigns, staff engagement, and recognition.
4.8 Stakeholder Engagement and Community Responsibility
  • Engage proactively with regulators, local communities, NGOs, and customers on environmental issues.
  • Support community environmental programmes and CSR activities related to conservation and sustainability.
4.9 Emergency Preparedness and Incident Response
  • Establish procedures for identifying and responding to environmental incidents (e.g., chemical spills, fire, equipment failure).
  • Conduct mock drills and ensure the availability of response tools and trained personnel.
4.10 Monitoring, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
  • Set measurable environmental targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Monitor environmental impacts and report regularly to top management and relevant authorities.
  • Conduct environmental audits, risk assessments, and implement corrective actions to continually improve the system.

5. Governance and Review

  • The Managing Director holds ultimate responsibility for the implementation of this policy, with support from the Environmental Compliance Officer and department heads.
  • The policy shall be reviewed annually, or as required, to ensure continued relevance, effectiveness, and compliance with new regulations and industry standards.
